Tottenham Boss Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Critics 'Not Genuine Supporters'

Fulham Begin Powerfully to Defeat Spurs and Increase Pressure on Frank

Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "they can't be real Tottenham fans" by manager Thomas Frank.

Spurs conceded a pair of scores in the first initial moments to fall 2-1 to their opponents, registering their 10th Premier League home loss of 2025.

However the main topic of discussion was Fulham's next goal when the keeper gave away the ball far outside his area.

The goalkeeper came out to handle a high pass and carried the ball towards the touchline.

But, instead of booting it out of play, the Italian spun and tried to clear, but slipped as the ball glanced off Wilson and was collected by King.

The forward passed the ball off to Welsh midfielder Wilson, who bent a shot into the goal from the sideline recorded at 36.6 metres.

Moments afterwards when the ball came to Vicario once more, some Tottenham fans jeered him.

Spurs were jeered off at the interval, with the side 2-0 down, and once more at the final whistle.

One of those booing sessions really angered Frank.

"It came to my attention some of our fans reportedly booed the incident and booed after, which, in my opinion is totally unjustifiable," the Dane commented regarding the fans' response to his goalkeeper.

"Those individuals can't be true Spurs fans that act that way. Alright booing following the game, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing each other, we are behind one another going forward."

Kenny Tete had handed Fulham a fourth-minute advantage prior to Harry Wilson's strike – with Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an improved second-half showing.

Ex- top-flight goalkeeper Hart remarked that the next goal was "completely avoidable".

"I certainly appreciate the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper continued. "I am aware the role Vicario is playing. He's a great team player, he's a real leader in the locker room but in the end you are going to be judged by your actions.

"He was heavily implicated in what ended up to be the decisive score."

'It is Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Match

Italian national team Vicario is in his third season with Tottenham.

The 29-year-old said following the game that he had to take the criticism.

"That score was a mistake of mine, I accept responsibility for that," he said.

"My aim was to clear the ball far and I simply struck the ball in a poor way. It was an more difficult mountain to overcome."

He said receiving jeers "is part of football".

"I am mature, what can I say?" he added. "We cannot be affected by the situation in the stands. Supporters have the entitlement to do what they think.

"It is on us to stay increasingly calm, to concentrate on ourselves. We are lacking in composure and calmness to overturn results. Today is a poor defeat and it's tough to take."

'I Was Surprised No One Returned to the Goal Line'

In spite of Vicario's mistake, it was far from an simple goal for Harry Wilson to convert.

In fact it was the second longest-range top division score of the campaign – following Adams' 43.3 yard strike for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which incidentally too occurred on the same day.

The goalscorer said he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an empty net to target.

10 moments elapsed between the keeper coming out of his area and Wilson striking – which was 5 moments after the kick.

"It seemed to me like the keeper was out of the area for a long time," Wilson remarked.

"It amazed me not one of the defenders returned to the line. When not one of them covered the net, my interest lit up a bit.

"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which gave me a bit of additional opportunity. Then it was all about attempting to achieve the right connection and place it towards goal. I felt a good feeling, as soon as it left my boot, that it was on the right line."

'During in a Poor Run, All Seems to Go Against You'

Booing Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unacceptable - Frank

While Vicario's mistake led coverage, this was an all-round poor performance for Tottenham to extend their home ground woes.

The match was their 10th home defeat of 2025 in the league, a shared club record matching 1994 and 2003.

The side still have home fixtures against the manager's former club the Bees and title holders Liverpool to play prior to the end of the season.

Only one of those wins have occurred after the manager took over from his predecessor in the off-season.

"When you're down 2-0 following six minutes, there is a huge challenge to climb," said the boss.

"During in a poor run, all aspects seems to work against you as well – the first was a deflected shot, the second is a error from the keeper.

"The outcome puts us in a position where we have suffered another match. Every game has a single narrative, this game we were defeated in the early stages.

"We just need to continue striving. The later period was much better and with luck something we can use to develop."

Tottenham have been defeated in four straight home London derbies for the first time in the Premier League.

Furthermore they are recording 9.5 attempts and 3.2 shots on target per match in the division – their lowest averages on file in a single season (since at least 2003-04).

Ex- Fulham midfield player Murphy stated that the manager has to ride the storm.

"He's got accept the stick," Murphy said. "He's accepted a prestigious job at a major team with enormous anticipation. There is pressure and duty that comes with that.

"Their showings at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
