Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Initiating Abusive Songs About Coach Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford is now a member of Sheffield United only half a year following leading disrespectful songs directed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has agreed to a deal with the Championship strugglers until January. His lengthy time with Leeds finished through agreement in August.
One of the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player included starting abusive chants regarding Wilder during the club’s promotion celebrations in April. Now, the former England player will be playing for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to lift his beloved club out of the relegation zone.
Past Conflict Between Bamford & Wilder
The pair had a past prior to Leeds won promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won direct promotion while Leeds missed out in the playoffs.
Making Amends and Moving Forward
Everything seems has been put behind them with United, the league's lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement in attack and Bamford looking to rejuvenate his career.
The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.
Chris Wilder said back then: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I have no problem at all with that. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow pro! However I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.
“We spent a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and had a half-hour chat together and he's a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we would dish it out and take it and that’s part and parcel of football at every level, including a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”
Latest Playing Challenges
The forward featured in 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the ex- Forest, Chelsea & Boro player has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
