Manchester United Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
