Hulu is Producing a Popular Game TV Show from the Minds of the Alien Series and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
The latest Far Cry instalment that gamers dived into was Far Cry 6, that showcased Giancarlo Esposito in the role of the antagonist, Antón, and came out during October 6, 2021. In the game universe, it is famous for celebrating violence and insanity with equal excitement, all while presenting engaging, socially charged narratives. Little surprise that the network’s recent announcement for a Far Cry anthology series pulled in two visionaries whose projects have embodied all of those qualities.
What to Expect
Based on Ubisoft's successful video game franchise, the short-run anthology series will be available on Hulu and be produced by FX Productions. The show will also follow the video games' style by having a different setting and cast of characters in every instalment.
Executive Team
Rob Mac, creator of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the talent behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will work as showrunners on the series under their labels, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be joined by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
The network enjoyed excellent partnerships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a combined six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are overjoyed that they are teaming up for Far Cry,” said Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a news release. “I have no doubt that they will tell this story in a way that is original, compelling, and incredibly entertaining. We also want to thank our partners at Ubisoft for entrusting us with this popular property.”
Cast and Future Plans
Mac will also feature in the show, but at the time of writing, we are unsure of what role that could be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was recently greenlit for a second instalment, with FX and Disney finalizing a new overall deal with the producer.
“Getting to work alongside Noah Hawley is a fantasy come true,” stated Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been incredibly generous, placing faith in us with one of the most iconic video-game worlds ever created. And along the way, my FX partners constantly supports me with their ongoing confidence and assistance.”
“What appeals to me about the Far Cry game series is that it’s an standalone show. Each game is a variation of a theme, the same way every series of Fargo is a version on a story,” explained Hawley. “To create a large-scale action show that can evolve from year to year, while always examining the essence of people through this intricate and unpredictable lens, is a long-held aspiration. I’m excited to work with Rob and introduce our common bold, daring style to the television.”
A release window for when we can look forward to the new Far Cry show has not been announced. The series will premiere on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus internationally.
