Disaster Hits as Accidental Blast at Police Station in Indian-administered Kashmir Claims Nine Fatalities
A devastating detonation at a police station in the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir has led to the deaths of nine people and injuries to thirty-two more, according to authority reports.
The event occurred when a stockpile of confiscated explosives accidentally blew up during handling procedures.
Sequence of Occurrences
The blast occurred on the evening of Friday at the Nowgam law enforcement facility, where explosive materials taken from Faridabad in the northern territory of Haryana state were being stored temporarily.
Regional law enforcement head declared that the detonation substances were awaiting scientific analysis when a "deeply regrettable" incident during management resulted in their blast at approximately 11:20 PM local.
Authority Declarations
Security forces confirmed that this was an "inadvertent blast" and as opposed to a terrorist attack. "Different conjectures regarding the cause of this occurrence is unneeded," emphasized the law enforcement head during a media conference.
The police station endured extensive destruction from the explosion, with neighboring structures also being influenced by the powerful blast.
Impact and Fatalities
Multiple vehicles were "engulfed in flames and transformed into ashen remains, with fragments distributed across the location," according to official reports.
"The power of the blast was such that some physical fragments were found in adjacent homes, approximately 100-200 metres away the security post," reported an authority informant.
The bulk of the fatalities were law enforcement personnel, along with forensic personnel, two crime scene photographers, and a clothing professional who was accompanying the group.
Administration Response
The region's Lieutenant Governor stated commiserations and confirmed that an inquiry had been ordered into the catastrophic occurrence.
"I have directed a inquiry to ascertain the cause of the inadvertent detonation. Extremely pained by the death of valuable individuals due to extremely tragic inadvertent detonation at Nowgam police station in Srinagar city. My condolences to the bereaved families. I wish for speedy recovery of the harmed," expressed the official on digital platforms.
