The January recruitment period is always a period of feverish rumour and potential major transfers. A number of high-profile players find themselves linked with transfers out of their current clubs. This article explores some of the key names that could be changing clubs in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's inability to qualify for the AFCON, which has kept the forward in contention, it appears a major transfer is close. The 25-year-old has a deal featuring a substantial buy-out clause active for a short window in early January. Latest reports suggest Manchester City have emerged as his signature. Other suitors like Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have turned their attention to alternative targets, leaving teams like Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a late move.

Marc Guéhi

The English centre-back has continued to excel for Crystal Palace despite a summer move to Liverpool collapsing. With his deal due to expire in the close season, this represents the London club's last opportunity to secure a transfer fee for their skipper. A host of top clubs, such as Manchester City and multiple continental powerhouses like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly be interested. Yet, a January departure is considered difficult, particularly given the manager's reliance on the player.

B. Johnson

The Welsh winger has had first-team minutes limited at Tottenham this term. Although finishing as the club's leading goalscorer last season, he has started only a small number of Premier League games. It is understood the North London club is open to a transfer for the right price, believed to be in the around forty million pounds. Bournemouth appear to be at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace additionally showing an inquiry.

R. Neves

The Portugal midfielder could be poised for a comeback to the Premier League after a period in the Saudi Pro League. Still just twenty-eight, and with his agreement ending in the summer of 2026, he is a possible bargain. Clubs such as Manchester United and Liverpool are linked with the player. Furthermore, there have been suggestions from Spain that he is prepared to take a pay cut for a move to Real Madrid.

Marc-André ter Stegen

The veteran German goalkeeper is now as the third option at Barcelona under new manager Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and undergone surgery, a winter exit seems highly likely. Villa were once linked as a potential destination, but that option now appears off. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be showing interest in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

This prolific England striker has continued finding the net frequently in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League might enhance his dwindling hopes of making the national World Cup. But, securing a deal presents major hurdles. His current club are reluctant to sell him, and his alleged enormous weekly wages render any agreement complicated. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton have all been mentioned as admirers.

Despite excelling and winning the best player award at the U21 Euros last summer, this young midfielder has struggled for minutes on loan at Villa. This highly-rated Turkish forward is in fine form for the Italian giants this term. With his existing contract nearing its end, a host of Premier League clubs – such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are keeping tabs on the developments. The Turin club are eager to tie down the youngster to a new long-term agreement but are in a battle to keep one of Europe's most promising young talents.

Kees Smit

The highly-touted Dutch midfielder has drawn parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. After impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has become a regular in the AZ side. This 19-year-old is heavily tipped to complete a big-money transfer this month. Newcastle reportedly are frontrunners, but could face stiff competition from Real Madrid for a signing priced at around twenty-two million pounds.
